Political analyst Daniyar Ashimbayev, in his Telegram channel, draws attention to the increased activity of pro-Western forces within the country.
Here is what the political analyst wrote (edited):
In recent weeks, there has been a sharp increase in activity from the «liberal» media network aimed at dragging Kazakhstan into a global conflict on the side of the West. There have been new publications stating that Kazakhstan needs to sever all forms of cooperation with Russia, China, and even Uzbekistan.
All sorts of «liberal,» nationalist-populist, «democratic,» and «anti-colonial» rhetoric are being used. The latter is particularly ambiguous, as this ideology is funded by various Western organizations and aimed at maximizing the subjugation of Kazakhstani politics and economy to the interests of Washington and/or London.
This involves not only getting embroiled in interstate conflicts (on the side of others) but also provoking interethnic and interfaith clashes within our country. The Ukrainian example is especially used as a «heroic struggle against Russian aggression» (note that some quasi-local publications and individuals present it as «Russian aggression,» allowing obvious conclusions about their objectives).
It is worth remembering that Ukrainian authorities, after the collapse of the Union, came to power with rhetoric supported by the Russian-speaking east of the country and then pursued a course in the interests of the west of the country and the West in a broader sense.
The current political regime came to power in 2014 as a result of a coup supported by the European Union and the United States. It was this regime that led to what Kyiv calls «separatism,» which in essence was about implementing the UN principle of the right of nations to self-determination.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, an experienced diplomat, in his speech in 2022 pointed out the contradiction between this right and the principle of territorial integrity of the state. However, Kazakhstan has always built a different model, based not on confrontational values (including national, linguistic, and religious), but on consolidative ones. And it wasn’t the economy that was subordinate to politics, but on the contrary — Kazakhstan based its approach on multi-vector policy, neutrality, and the importance of active and comprehensive cooperation with neighboring countries, as well as with all countries of the world.
It is quite obvious that the cause of the military conflict is not «Russian (or Russian) aggression,» but the transformation of Ukraine into a foothold for conflict with Moscow and the infringement of the interests of the multinational people of Ukraine.
The Kiev authorities lacked the wisdom to pursue policies in the interest of their country and to consolidate society. Now we see that even formal political legitimacy has collapsed — elections were not only canceled but even not scheduled. And the countries that are the strongholds of «world democracy» saw no problems in this.
There was a «strange» attempt on the life of the Slovak Prime Minister Fico, who holds a critical position towards Brussels. There is strong pressure on Hungarian Prime Minister Orbán, who pursues a course in the interests of his country. In Georgia, they are trying to stage another «rose revolution,» using as a pretext a local bill on foreign agents, which aims to reduce the level of external influence on Georgian politics.
It is amusing that even the so-called «European Court of Human Rights» saw no political motives in the criminal prosecution of former president and leader of the previous «revolution» Saakashvili by the authorities.
Kazakhstan is also under pressure, allegedly «inconsistently and incorrectly» reforming, conducting an «incorrect» foreign policy course, not sharing power with local foreign agents and nationalists, and not wanting to follow the path of «decolonization.» Even Zelensky was brought into the fight, who recently accused the leadership of the Central Asian countries of cowardice before Moscow and threatened with obligatory «Russian aggression.»
It is worth recalling that before the interview with the head of Ukraine appeared in our information space, replicated exclusively by media within the well-known «liberal network,» President Tokayev delivered a major lecture on Kazakhstan’s foreign policy and the current international situation.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated:
We are vigilant and proactive in countering external challenges. We will never hesitate to defend the legitimate rights and interests of Kazakhstan, let alone sacrifice our core interests. Sometimes our position is met with skepticism, criticized for neutrality. However, neutrality should not be taken for a lack of conviction. On the contrary, it is a conscious choice in favor of diplomacy and dialogue, not conflict and coercion. This choice is our strength, allowing us to help bridge deep divides — from territorial disputes to ideological conflicts.
It seems to me that these words adequately describe the position of our country. It is worth noting that the priorities of the Kazakh leadership have always been state interests, values of peace, stability, and — I would add — wisdom, which is very scarce in today’s world.
