Not for long did the office of the Akim of the East-Kazakhstan Province remain vacant. Yermek Kosherbayev was assigned to the post, almost immediately after the resignation of the previous Akim, Daniyal Akhmetov, political veteran and heavy-weighter. That was Mr. Kosherbayev’s second assignment to a top-ranking position in the discussed province.

Daniyar Ashimbayev discusses the new Akim in his telegram-channel, as follows (literal translation below):

58-years old Yermek Kosherbayev makes another East-Kazakhstan Akim. The individual is a famous asset in the national elite.

His Father was a Deputy Director in the publications directorate of the Central Committee of the Kazakh SSR Communist Party. His Father-in-Law, Marken Chaizhunusov, used to be the Head of the Culture Sector of the Central Committee of the Kazakh SSR Communist Party and the Semipalatinsk Town Akim. 

Yermek worked in the Kazakh SSR Foreign Ministry. In 1994, he moved to the Office of the President. In 1996, he was in charge of the Presidential Protocol. Later, he worked in the Kazakh Embassy in Switzerland (Ambassador was Mr. Bolat Utemuratov). In 1997 to 1999, Mr. Kosherbayev was Premier Balgimbayev’s Assistant.  Later he was the Deputy CEO in the Education Fund headed by Dinara Nazarbayeva.

Later, he worked in KazTransOil and KazMunayGas. In 2004, Mr. Kosherbayev was the First Deputy Head of Staff of the Otan Party HQ. Then, he returned to KazMunayGas and them became the Deputy CEO in the Atameken Chamber of Entrepreneurial Activity and Commerce. Then, again Otan Party. In 2009-2012, was the CEO of a Social Entrepreneurial Corporation, Deputy and First Deputy of the East-Kazakhstan Province Akim. There were plans to assign him the East-Kazakhstan Province Akim, but Mr. Akhmetov took that post.  After that, Mr. Kosherbayev was the Agriculture Vice-Minister and Executive Secretary (Ministers were Mr. Mamytbekov and Mr. Myrzakhmetov). When Mr. Shukeyev was assigned the Agriculture Minister, Mr. Kosherbayev returned to Foreign Minister and was Foreign Ministry’s Executive Secretary and Deputy Minister. In 2020, after Mr. Tasmagambetov’s resignation, Mr. Kosherbayev was assigned the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Russia. 

And, finally, in 10 years, Mr. Kosherbayev made the Akim of the East-Kazakhstan Province.
