Prominent political analyst Marat Shubutov is openly dissatisfied with the recent economic policies of the government, which he sees as burdensome.

In his Telegram channel, he writes on the matter:

«Two Approaches to State Economic Regulation

When it comes to state economic regulation, there are two opposing approaches: liberal and socialist, and understanding these basics is crucial.

In the liberal approach, the government doesn’t provide market participants with various subsidies and grants but refrains from heavy-handed intervention, thus shedding responsibility. In this model, adults are expected to manage their own problems.

In the socialist approach, the government actively regulates the economy, instructing people on what to do while distributing subsidies, grants, and benefits in a fair manner. Most importantly, the government takes responsibility for all that happens.

Over the past decade, our government seems to combine the worst elements of both policies in the economy. On one hand, it constantly interferes with the economy through regulations, primarily through prohibitions. On the other, it consistently evades responsibility, for instance in urban development, and refuses to be held accountable for the results of its management.

In summary, our government acts as socialists when it comes to banning the export of cabbage and gasoline, and as liberals when it should be held accountable for managing off-budget funds and regulating urban development. This situation increasingly annoys the citizens of Kazakhstan, and nobody likes it.»
