Visa-Free Regime With China: Advice for Kazakhstan Citizens

The introduction of a visa-free regime with China is likely to increase the tourist flow to this vast and complex country.

A well-known expert on China, Adil Kaukenov, quoted businessman Kuanysh Egimbayev, who wrote a brief guide for those wishing to visit China:

«My experience of interacting with China spans many years. During this time, I have made many close friends there, with whom our relationship is based on friendship, not just business. Based on my experience, I would like to share a few behavioral rules that might be useful in this amazing country. This is my subjective opinion, but it might prove helpful:

  • Remember that you are a guest. Obey local laws and rules. Show respect to the locals.
  • Avoid staring at people, especially women. This is not acceptable in China.
  • Respect the elderly. This is particularly valued in China.
  • Do not laugh at things that are unusual for you – it may be perceived as an insult.
  • Avoid photographing government facilities and police officers.
  • Try not to discuss politics.
  • China is a very safe country, but be cautious: do not accept packages from strangers, avoid dubious establishments and gambling, do not offer bribes. The consequences can be fatal.
  • Be polite and modest. Remember that the outward simplicity of a Chinese person does not always reflect their social status.
  • Do not be rude. Remember, the Chinese highly value friendship and honest relationships. Do not deceive your partners.
  • Always comply with police requirements and do not argue.
  • Never criticize your homeland in conversations. For the Chinese, it may be incomprehensible why someone does not love their country. Better to focus on the positive aspects of Kazakhstan and express respect and love for your homeland.

By following these rules, you will enjoy your stay in a country where ancient temples and modern business centers are wonderfully intertwined, and you will get acquainted with the amazing culture and open-minded people. You will find a lot in common with our culture — they also love melodious, romantic, and love songs, they enjoy feasting and drinking tea. They have lavish weddings, love giving and receiving gifts. They can chat on various topics for hours, but they especially enjoy heartfelt philosophical conversations. I wish everyone luck and unforgettable experiences”.
