An unexpected revelation about the influx of traffic into the metropolis was recently shared by the city authorities in Almaty.
Surveillance cameras on the city’s roads are recording that, on average, over 700,000 vehicles enter the city on weekdays:
Through the 10 main arterial roads, there are more than 400,000 vehicles.
Via 17 roads from the region into the city, there are an additional 300,000 vehicles.
Officials have compared these numbers to the entire vehicle fleet of a whole country — Latvia, where approximately 730,000 cars are registered.
On a local scale, this is equivalent to the combined vehicle count of five West Kazakhstan regions, which has 134,172 cars or twice the number of vehicles found in two Astana fleets, totaling over 326,000 cars.
It’s important to note that in addition to these vehicles, around 617,000 cars are registered within the city itself. Out of these, 400,000 cars exit from residential areas.
In summary, on a regular working day, more than 1.1 million vehicles are on the move on Almaty’s roads.
