Two men have been sentenced to seven years in prison for abducting a girl in Taraz, reports the Prosecutor’s Office of Zhambyl Region.

By the decision of Taraz Court No. 2, natives of Mangystau and Aktobe regions were convicted of abducting a bride. On September 21, both the would-be groom and his accomplice were found guilty under Article 125, Part 2, Paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan and were sentenced to seven years of imprisonment.

In the spring of 2022, one of the men met the girl through mutual acquaintances. After a few meetings, she refused to continue the relationship. However, he decided to abduct the girl for future marriage. In February, in Taraz, along with a friend, they deceived and forcibly put the girl into a car and attempted to leave the city. The girl’s screams were heard by neighbors who called the police.

Abducting a person, including bride kidnapping, is a violation of human rights and fundamental principles of freedom and equality. In this regard, the prosecutor’s office warns that the abduction of a person is a serious crime that carries a real deprivation of liberty as a punishment.
