School’s Retribution: Noted Blogger Accused of Assaulting School Director

Azamat Sarsenbayev from Aktau became too involved in questioning issues related to school meals and their funding. As a result, the administration of the educational institution where the blogger found financial inconsistencies turned against him.

Sarsenbayev claims that the police are being manipulated against him:

«The storytellers from ‘Bilim Innovatsiya Litsyei’ complained to the police about me. Allegedly, I unlawfully entered the school cafeteria, threatened children, defied the local police officer’s demands, threatened teachers, and USED PHYSICAL FORCE against the school director. Real people, in their right minds, signed under this document. I doubt law enforcement will even issue an administrative decision. Most likely, the case will be closed due to a lack of offense, so I’m not worried at all.»

The blogger openly states the reason behind the administration’s actions – supposedly, it is revenge for shedding light on the funding of school meals and how educational institutions’ administrations profit from it:

«I read comments from some ‘BIL’ parents that they pay 9,000 tenge per month for their children’s meals at school. 380 children * 9,000 tenge = 3,420,000 tenge…

In regular secondary schools, the government allocates approximately 500 tenge per child for a single meal. In lyceums, because children spend entire days there, they are entitled to five meals, and the government allocates approximately 1,800 tenge per child.

I have a simple question: why do parents collect money monthly for their children’s meals if government funds are already allocated for this purpose? The entrepreneur who provides meals in the school admits that he was previously paid from two accounts, but in the last two months, he has been paid only from the local education management account (from the state budget).

Where do the parents’ money for their children’s meals go? What is the point of collecting money from parents of lyceum students for meals when the government already covers this need? And where did the three million tenge from parents for October, for example, disappear to?»
