Respecting Bolat Nazarbayev — a Story From the Funeral

Talgat Ryskulbekov, the younger brother of Kairat Ryskulbekov, a hero of the December 1986 events, and the chairman of the public association ‘Jeltoksan Rukhy,’ was spotted at the funeral of Bolat Nazarbayev. It is worth recalling that he once declared his intention to move to Chechnya if his daughters were not allowed to wear the hijab in school. As Talgat Ryskulbekov told Stan.kz, he was never personally acquainted with the younger brother of the ex-president. Nevertheless, he had his personal reasons for attending the funeral.

‘My attendance was tied to my understanding and adherence to Muslim teachings. Let me share a story about Bolat Nazarbayev. I have a blind acquaintance named Chingiz. When we met, he was doing joint massages to earn a living. He has a family – a wife and four children. One day, this man asked me for help: ‘Talgat, perhaps you have connections; I can’t get in line for housing at the Public Service Center. Please help a blind disabled man. We are constantly moving from one apartment to another.’ But at that time, I didn’t have such an opportunity.»

“A few months later, he contacted me and told me that Bolat Nazarbayev’s assistants had built 27 houses on the outskirts of Shamalgan, fully furnished on the inside. And so, this blind man received a house as a gift. He called me in tears to share this news. Later, I visited him. Everything was well with him. I was happy for him. Therefore, no matter what Bolat Nazarbayev did, he will answer to God for his actions. But specifically for this deed, I respect him.”

Moreover, he shared his opinion on Kazakhstani oligarchs. He says that many wealthy people, despite having billions, do not engage in charitable activities unlike Bolat Nazarbayev.

“As Tokayev said, there are 160 oligarchs in Kazakhstan. Perhaps not all of them achieved their wealth honestly. For example, if 10 percent are involved in real production, the rest achieved their status differently. Many have profited from the riches of the Kazakhs. But who among them built houses for orphans like Bolat Nazarbayev? Who of them has built a school or a hospital?” — shared Talgat Ryskulbekov.

It is recalled that Bolat Nazarbayev passed away on November 13, 2023.

Bolat Abishuly was born on March 23, 1953, in the village of Shamalgan, Karasai district, Almaty region. He was known as the younger brother of Nursultan Nazarbayev, the first President of Kazakhstan.
