As claimed by Edil Zhanbyrshin, the issue of water deficit is critically important for ensuring the state’s security.

Despite having a substantial water potential in Kazakhstan (around 102 cubic kilometers), the majority of this resource is in glaciers and underground. However, without proper management and regulation of these reserves, we may face water shortages in the future.

Deputy Edil Zhanbyrshin drew attention to the forecast of the United Nations (UN), according to which, by 2050, every fourth person in the world will experience water deficit.

«We have water potential. According to various data, the country has 102 cubic kilometers of water reserves. But despite all this, if we do not manage them properly, we will face a deficit in the future. According to the UN, by 2050, every fourth person in the world will suffer from a lack of water. It is also said that after that, all these terrible wars will be fought over this vital resource. In this context, we need to regulate water on a legal basis,» Zhanbyrshin shared in an interview with Stan.kz.

In other words, according to the deputy, the implementation of legal mechanisms for regulating water use is necessary to prevent potential consequences of deficit in the future. One of the steps in this direction could be the adoption of a new Water Code aimed at the rational use, protection, and purification of water resources, as stated by the head of the state, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
